Years ago I came up with this rule. The rule was “any game that is $10 or less (on console) is a great game regardless of whether or not it’s a great game” – simple right?
I came up with it after I found a copy of Fusion Frenzy 2 in a bargain bin for $5.99 and was umming and ahhing for about 10 minutes about whether or not I should buy it. I justified the purchase by saying that either the game was going to be so bad that it’s laughable and worth $6 just for the chuckles, or it was going to be the best purchase ever. It turned out to be well worth $10! My friends and I had a blast playing that game and I was rather pleased with my purchase.
Over the next few months I walked past that shop a few times on my way to work and started to rummage through the bins. There was a few games for $20/$25 which I tried and just didn’t have the same feeling of value. So I bought a few more $10 games. Some were awful, some were pretty good but I was never disappointed.
Since then any game I see for $10 or less I must buy. Today, while at EB Games I saw Duke Nukem for $4 and had to buy it. I love the old N64 Duke Nukem so how bad could it be right? Don’t tell me yet! Gotta wait and see for myself…
I thought this would make a good series of review/slam articles, where I basically just buy a dirt cheap game and either laugh my butt off at how awful it is (and why it deserved to be that cheap in the first place) or how you need to go buy the game because it’s awesome value. Keep an eye out for these articles in the near future.
Now to my confession about Fallout New Vegas.
Yesterday I published an article by DS&B contributor Beau detailing his thoughts on the previous Fallout games and whether or not you needed to play them. It got me thinking…
I’ve been bitten by the hype bug for Fallout 4. That game looks amazing! I really cannot wait for it. I loved Fallout 3 so I can’t see myself not loving Fallout 4. But I have a confession to make…I’ve never played Fallout New Vegas.
I know, I know. I’m sorry! It must have just slipped through the cracks somehow! But don’t worry, today I picked up the Ultimate Edition with all the DLC and it’s currently installing as we speak. I will also be doing a ‘classic games’ review on it.
I’m going to wrap it up there because I think it just hit 100% but I want to know what you think of Fallout New Vegas? Did you miss it too? Also what is the best gaming bargain you’ve ever gotten?
