Australia day is probably my favourite holiday, not because I love Australia though. Don’t get me wrong, I like Vegemite and Koalas as much as the next guy but the reason I love Australia day is because it’s just so relaxed. Christmas, New Year and Easter are all crazy times of year full of rushing and last minute purchases. Australia day however is all about kicking back, having a bbq with some friends, going swimming and just hanging out.
This is my equivalent of a “happy Australia day” Instagram post.
I woke up and looked out my window to see what you see above. Considering that the previous day was 30+ degrees, I was a little bummed out. But nevertheless, I had a bbq pool party to go to and wasn’t going to let some rain bring me down! After a traditional Australian breakfast, I was ready to go! Poll: Which is more Australian, a singlet, or a Hawaiian shirt? It was a tough choice but I went with singlet. I drove to my girlfriend’s place to make some more authentic Australian cuisine. Fairy bread is best bread. The weather was getting worse. The familiar smell of greasey sausages on the bbq made me forget about the rain. I then got into the pool (which was warmer than outside) and gave Jess a piggyback ride, then played some water sports with my extremely attractive friends. I had been wanting to test my GoPro out for ages so this was a perfect excuse! It works great and the images are crystal clear. These are just screen grabs from video footage, can’t wait to play around with the photo features! I was too busy playing to keep filming/taking photos though. We ended up just lazing around, listening to Triple J’s hottest 100 and eating food. We played some backyard soccer but the rain came down pretty hard so I went inside haha!
Another great Australia day down! I love hanging out with friends and doing nothing, so it’s great that our national holiday is just that!
Next year I will be going to the midnight fireworks near my house which are surprisingly good and take some cool photos.
